Sun, ocean and beaches. That is what Hawaii is all about. Many of the luxury Waikiki hotels are located on a beach, have their own private beaches or are just steps away from world famous beaches. The hotels have their own restaurants, bars and lounges, or the visitor can dine at any of the large selection of eateries in the towns or at other resorts. Airports are within minutes from hotels and resorts and shuttles are available to collect and drop visitors. China Airlines operate a service to the island and NTT DoCoMo brings the Japanese visitors.

Waikiki is translated as "spouting fresh water" because of the many streams and springs that led into a wetland that separated the town from the interior in early days. The town is known for its views of Diamond Head and for its ideal climate, mostly warm and cloud-free. Visitors who are surfers will appreciate the Waikiki Beach surf break and for the fact that half of the relatively short beach has been marked off for their use only. Although the waves can be forceful on windy days, the long rolling break makes it an ideal sport for beginners and for boarding and tandem surfing. For visitors who cannot surf, it is easy to learn. Instructors who are lifeguards and trained in CPR can show you the way.

Charter a boat for a fishing trip at Oahu's west coast or hire your own car and Oahu guide to tour the island. Don your hiking boots and take a volcano lava walk tour to see craters, lava beds and steam vents for a rare chance to experience a volcano. Helicopters are available to take keen visitors on an aerial tour of the island. See the valleys, beaches, rainforests and snowcaps from high up. Guests at the luxury Waikiki hotels can visit the Polynesian Cultural Center to learn all about the Polynesian traditions and to experience Hawaiian luau first hand. Guests, who want to swim with dolphins, can do so at Starwood's dolphin connection.

Guests who are cyclists should consider an Oahu bike tour. The 5-mile bike ride is all downhill along a path in the Puu Ohia rainforest and even visitors who are not active will be able to do it. Get the most out of your trip and do the Diamond Head Waikiki parasail. Sail 500 feet above the ocean for a once in a lifetime view of Diamond Head, downtown Honolulu and the Waikiki town and beach. Remember the past and pay a visit to the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor.

The Hilton Spirit of Aloha is a sailing catamaran where the visitor can dine while sailing. Join an excursion, bring your friends and make a night of it. Have a draft beer in the catamaran's full bar and have a prime spot watching the Hilton fireworks display, the highlight of the evening. The best of Asia-Pacific, Hawaiian and continental dishes are served in a buffet and guests can mingle and get to know new people. A free snorkel is included in the package.

A signature concierge at the luxury Waikiki hotels will gladly assist the guest with tours and excursions and amenities abound. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, DVD players and iPod docking alarm clocks. Many offer pay-per-view movies and have balconies or patios. They are smoke-free and 24-hour room service is available. Select rooms have refrigerators and mini-bars. Relax on the sun terrace and have a relaxing massage or sauna session afterwards. Salt free swimming pools and jacuzzis are for unlimited use of the guest. Family rooms are available and disabled guests are catered for. The gay community is welcomed.

The hotels have VIP rooms to receive important guests and business centers with fax and photocopy facilities are available to visitors who need to conduct business while on vacation. A barber is at hand and a beauty shop offers all the deluxe treatments that the ladies are used to. Certain hotels have bridal suites to make that honeymoon extra special. The teenagers will enjoy the video and board games in the lobby. Visitors can do their shopping in the various shops in the hotels and if they do not find the gifts and souvenirs they are looking for, downtown Honolulu has a wide variety of shops to choose from.
